Asa George Out

In a move that has surprised many of our readers, WKEF/WRGT and Asa George have parted ways. Dean Ditmer, the general manager of Sinclair's Dayton stations stated that George was let go as a result of the current economic downturn. George was taken off the air this past Friday and was told her contract would not be renewed. Upon the news, George declined to finish off the two remaining months in her contract. George had been a five year station veteran and is now working with her New York-based agents to find new employment, while she continues to do charity work for the Humane Society locally in Dayton.

George has been replaced with Kylie Conway, a reporter/anchor that has been with WKEF/WRGT for only a few months. Conway's last stop was in Toledo, where she started as a general assignment reporter, quickly became the weekend anchor, and finally the weekday morning anchor at Barrington's struggling NBC affiliate WNWO.

What!!! That really upsets me! She is great at what she does.

What a sad turn of events.

I now know why they hired Kylie Conway. I could not figure out where she was going to fit in the mix, but now it makes sense. This was the plan from the beginning, bring someone in cheaper and axe the best thing they had going for them. WKEF will never be taken seriously in this town so long as they keep getting rid of talent that the viewers have become comfortable with. I look for Mike Terwilliger to get the axe next, he has been there over ten years now, too long by Sinclair standards.

Mark Pompilio, Michelle Kingsfield, Tom Burse, Don Brown, Guy Fogle, Laurie Penco. All could have helped this station tremendously had they been kept around, but they were pushed right out the door for a bunch of teenagers.

I only watch WKEF/WRGT for ABC and Fox networks. When it is time for the news I switch to WDTN. Sinclair might as well cancel the news, nobody is watching anyways.

NO WAY!!!This is just sad I watch Abc 22/Fox 45 news and Channel 7(Whio) I will miss Asa she gave me the news every weekday morning as I would get ready for school.

They need to stop getting rid of such great talent and Keep Asa.

What a stupid move I feel sorry for GM Mr.Dean Ditimer he doesnt know what he is doing they should can him!

I knew this was coming for awhile, I had caught wind from Toledo that she was heading to Dayton to host the morning show. They probably waited a few months to make the switch to give Conway time to assimilate.

As for the comment above about keeping pushing all those personalites out for younger people, not all of them were pushed out. I believe both Fogle and Kingsfield quit voluntarily (not to mention Kingsfield wasn't replaced by a younger, but by Candice Hunter who was roughly the same age), and Brown was let go for ongoing behavioral problems.

Mostly talent is dumped for salary, or because the management doesn't appreciate their ethics when they disagree with management about things they feel are wrong.

BTW, Lindsey Kurtz is also on the way out at the end of May. Rumor is she asked to be let out of her contract.

Lindsey Kurtz needs some more practice at being a meteorologist. I question her degree, I bet she just took that stupid correspondence that Mississippi State offers. They need to hire a real meteorologist or just keep Pat Barry full time, even though he is not a meteorologist @ least he is watchable.

Of course they could always hire Janet McGill back.

Lindsey Kurtz is a great meteorologist I trust her word more than Whio and WDTN.And I wouldn't like to see her go nor would like to see asa go.

Obviously you don't understand meteorology if you think she is the best. Maybe the best looking, no arguing there, but thats it.

Seriously, if you watch the news or weather just to look at someone, you are probably mentally retarded.

This is why they hired Lindsey Kurtz. She's just a hair piece for a small section of idiot viewers to drool over. She provides no service to the public. Her coverage is awful. Besides, she doesn't even "like" weather. She knows she can get a quick buck moving up markets. Idiot GMs and News Directors hire these kind of women in hopes of increased viewership. At the end of the day, most research proves no statistical advantage to hiring a bimbo....ESPECIALLY in a weather intensive market like Dayton.

I so agree with the previous comment. Lindsey is the worst weather reporter in Dayton. I hope they replace her with a real meteorologist with real knowledge. Brian Davis is the best meteorologist in town now that Carl Nichols has retired. Jamie Simpson is smart, but his presentation is a bore to watch.

I can tell by your post that you are jealous of Lindsey Kurtz. The stations get young people so they can attract a younger viewing demographic.I like miss kurtz she does a fairly good job.You know I must be mentally retarded by your standards because I enojoy Jamie Simpson's forcasts when I get home from work and Mike Terwilleger's forcast every weekday morning. Also maybe the person who trusts miss kurtz knows her.

I will miss Asa I would watch her in the wee hours of the morning as I would get ready for work.

-What happened to Valerie Abati?

Valerie Abati is at WLWT channel 5 in Cincinnati where she does the weather for the 6 and 11 pm news weeknights. She was too good for Dayton and besides she was only free-lancing at WKEF. She was never under contract

As discussed as far back as a year ago, Baldridge to retire in August. James Brown to take his place

Obviously, you know nothing about local news. Most stations have given up the attempt to attract a younger demographic. It just doesn't happen, young people don't watch news until the get older. Also, Dayton has a highly skewed older demographic - what little young demographic to get is negligible.

Jealous? WKEF/WRGT is a dog shit 3rd place duopoly. Pay and exposure are next to nothing. Get your shit straight before commenting on local tv - just because you have a hard-on for a weathercaster doesn't mean you're an expert on the topic.

I am very sad to see that asa george was let go she was a breath of fresh air to the station .Ialways got up in the moning to watch your newscast with here.here involvement with the humane society i applaude her.you lost a truly tallented person .good luck or better still ASA you'l always come out on top in my book I'M TURNING TO WDTN FOR NEWS WEATHER AND SPORTS .vbo`18R75

Well, this would explain the "change in weather" teaser on Fox 45 here lately. They must be getting a "big name" to fill Kurtz's spot once she is out.

I figured she'd go on kind of that weird 3 weekday/weekend shift. The last time they had a met. that worked all week was Greg Dixon and they fired him also. Terwilleger better polish his resume, I bet he is NEXT

I liked Asa, but Kylie is doing a fine job. She is definitly better to look at to start my day. & she can read a teleprompter just as well as Asa.

Now, losing Kurtz will hurt. The mustache is good in the AM, but Pat Berry is booooring.

Look, their shows are jokes. Horrible "reporting". Their PM show is all just teasers & commercials. So just bring in young good looking people to get us to watch.

Kurtz was hot, this sucks, Dayton just keeps getting worse. Asa was pretty hot too, but she doesn't rank as high on my finger scale.

LIndsey Kurtz left to go with her fiance to south America where she will be a missionary..
She has a degree in broadcasting, and was a sight for sore eyes

I also miss Tracy Hale-Brown, as I had a crush on her until she got married, and she is still a cutie, catch her on the Telethon in about a week...
She still does fill-in on occasion

WKEF has allowed a lot of talented people go. Don Brown, Mark Pompilio and the list goes on. As for Laurie Penco she had four different co-anchors in the five years she was there. Ryan Andrews was one of them, very talented but they kept playing musical chairs. From what I understand, Penco never attempted to negotiate a new contract. Why doesn't management try to bring back some of these very talented and community oriented people?? Are they still around??
