WLWT Hires New Chief

A former Cincinnatian and Princeton High School graduate is about to take the reigns as WLWT's Chief Meteorologist. Kevin Robinson will hit the Cincinnati airwaves on January 11th. Robinson comes to Cincinnati from The Weather Channel, where he has served as a meteorologist on Evening Edition. Prior to working at the Weather Channel, Robinson worked at Hearst-owned WAPT. WLWT plans to make announcements on the redeployment of its weather staff in the coming weeks.

Wow, I really enjoyed Kevin Robinson on The Weather Channel quite a bit so to me this is very welcome news and if the team and crew down there place their cards right, they could make a big jump in those numbers. A big welcome to Cincinnati. What ever happened to Evening Edition anyways?

WLWT will find a way to screw this up just like they do everything.

Lets hope and pray that they stick with the guy. Their problems aren't going to go away in one ratings book. It is going to take years to right the damage that has been done. The need to get their team in place and stick with them. Stick with Jack, Sharee, Kevin, and Ken...

You keep changing faces every year, nobody knows who is doing the news and people are not comfortable watching them. People know if they turn to channel 12 they are going to see Rob and Kit. If they turn to 9 they are going to see Carol and Clyde. They are comfortable with those people, they have been there a long time. When they turn to Channel 5 they don't know who the hell they are watching...

I agree that News 5 needs to make up their mind on who they want as the face of their network. I hope this is a great step forward because I really like Kevin Robinson on Weather Channel and this alone will get me to give News 5 a try. (They need to hurry up and get on with the local HD news too... One of the reasons I watch 12 and 9 more often.)

any word on the dayton sweeps?

My guess is on the Dayton sweeps is there was no surprises. WHIO most likely swept each time slot by a huge margin as WDTN and WKEF continue to circle the drain...

1:24-

I knew that was coming. WLWT hired another African-American to help their image because they were already starting to look suspicious with their past and recent moves, especially within the black community. The last thing that station needs is more bad press and this was the perfect way to smooth things over so those moves won't look as bad. It was a smart move because Kevin is qualified and very good at what he does and deserved a shot over the 8 million other cookie-cutter white males that do the same thing.

Kevin Robinson's saving grace is that Brennan Donnellan and Sally Macy aren't running the show anymore. If that were the case, I'd give him 2 years tops.

The new news director seems like she is fair and will give the guy a chance. Let's hope that's the case.

Above post was posted in the wrong threat but is still relevent. Refer to "Sandra Ali leaving" for the reason I responded the way I did.

Your racism claim against WLWT is still rediculous. I think what you are advocating is that once a black person is assigned a certain job, he or she is to stay there permanently. Well, guess what? It doesn't workt that way for anyone.

People of all kinds of races and genders have been assigned the chief met job at Channel 5 for a long time. They all last about two years. Things didn't work out for a number of reasons for Dave Frasier, Angelique Frame, Jim O'Bryon, Byron Webre, and Derek Beasley. Maybe even add Valerie Abati to the list.

Perhaps Courtis Fuller would have been in line to be a primary anchor- until he quit his job to run for mayor.

You are making wild claims that have no basis in fact.

For reference to the above post, here are the claims made in the thread "Ali not returning to WLWT":

There is a problem at WLWT. A really BIG problem. Chew on this:

Sandra is pulled off the 11 in favor of Sheree

Michelle Hopkins is pulled off the morning show in favor of Lisa Cooney.

Derek Beasley was placed on a split shift and taken off the 11pm in favor of a less qualified Valerie Abati (who by the way was terminated from her previous job in Pittsburgh)

Courtis Fuller, perhaps the most well known person at WLWT when it comes to name recognition is never given the opportunity to replace Dave Wagner. He still does WEEKNDS.

Reagan Butler and Angela Brown, both talented reporters mistreated at Channel 5 and forced out of town.

Clyde Gray seeks to be the main anchor after Jerry Springer leaves in the early 90s and is declined. He leaves and becomes the most watched and most repsected anchor in Cincinnati at WCPO.

See a pattern here? What is it with this station and not wanting ANYONE of color in a position of power or authority? It's one thing if the talent clearly needs to be moved due to a lack of skills and talent, but this wasn't the case with ANY of these people. They were all talented minorities that were given the shaft in favor of less qualified and less talented Caucasians.

It f'ing sickens me.

I need to correct you on Clyde Gray. He left WLWT before Springer left... WCPO came after Clyde and Clyde never sought Springer's job. When Springer left, Clyde was already anchoring at Channel 9...

On the other hand, when Springer left it was Courtiss Fuller and Jim Watkins who were both battling for the top anchor job. Neither got it and Charlie Luken was hired...

I hope they aren't giving John Bateman the shaft because he is openly gay.

Nice play on words 2:07. I doubt that would make any difference to Ch. 5, otherwise they'd have a serious lawsuit on their hands.

It doesn't come across on-air but John Bateman is definitely gay. VERY GAY. Supposedly he's dating some guy that works at a restaurant in Hyde Park.
