Here's a round-up of some recent stories about the local media scene:
WHIO-TV and Cox Radio to Relocate Under One Roof
Cox Media Group will unite WHIO-TV as well as local Cox radio stations — WHIO, WHKO and WZLR — under one roof at the Cox Ohio Publishing Media Center by 2011. The new offices and studios will be located at 1611 South Main Street.
WLWT's Eric Green to KOAT
More changes in the weather at WLWT this week as chief meteorologist Kevin Robinson gets ready to debut on News 5 this week. Eric Green, meteorologist at WLWT for three years, is heading to Hearst sister station KOAT to forecast weather the morning weather on Action 7 News. This departure allow Valerie Abati to cover the entire weekend shift beginning this coming weekend. Randi Rico will continue on mornings as previously reported.
Layoffs at WDTN
WDTN is letting four staff members go as a result of the economy. Station veteran Sharon Howard, director of community and public relations, was one of the victims.
Carl Day back on Dayton TV
Veteran Dayton broadcaster Carl Day is going back to his broadcast roots as he prepares to launch commentaries on WKEF and WRGT, just in time for birthday number 72. The commentaries will air twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Sinclair duopoly.

It's great to see Carl Day back on TV! Happy Birthday, Carl!
Is WHIO-TV leaving Wilmington Ave?
Yes, WHIO is leaving its Wilmington Ave location....
Did Jim Bucher hit the road? The only time I've seen him was when the weather was bad.
Really sad to see Eric leave :( BTW bateman is staying to do weekend evenings. Abati is doing weekend AMs where she belongs....
WDTN is hitting some very hard times, they have cut the news department to the bone and it has affected the quality of their newscasts... They cannot cover the number of stories with less reporters... In case you have not noticed Chelby Kosto is gone and is not being replaced.... Dave D'Marco left and they did not replace him either... It is times like this that I miss when WDTN was owned by Hearst, they did so much right with the station... Lin TV is running the station into the ground...
It's sad to see what's happening to WDTN. I wonder how they will be able to survive long-term. There are some good people there, and they don't deserve this. The gap between 2 and 7 just keeps getting bigger. Everyone loses in the Dayton region with what's happening @ 2!
About five years ago I really got into watching WDTN after many years of watching WHIO just because I wanted a little change... I really liked what Channel 2 had going on, they really had a good product. But I have watched the 2 News product slowly detiorate into a product that is just about un-watchable. They have cut back so much that their news is just down right boring... It reminds me of how their news was back in the early 1980's.
I am now back to exclusively back to watching Channel 7 and will watch 22/45 as a back up when Channel 7 is pre-empted for sports...
I feel that Channel 2 is going to be in third place behind 22/45 in a matter of time if they continue the cuts. You cannot keep cutting people and to expect to produce a better newscast, it is just not possible.

Down to five reporters?
Jesus. What a farce.
More like down to four reporters, Bucher can hardly be considered a reporter...

Get ready for a new addition to the WHIO-TV 7 family later this year. According to WHIO's job postings online today (http://www.whiotv.com/jobs/1908480/detail.html), expect Newscenter 7 to either hire another news reporter or a fourth meteorologist.
Unusual job ad for them, general assignment reporter I can understand... But usually they look for a meteorologist to handle weather, with the exception of Tracie Hale-Brown who is not a meteorologist, but she is a non-contracted employee...
I knew Chelby real well while she was down in Baton Rouge. She is solid reporter and we tried to talk her out from going back to Ohio b/c we felt the economy up there was worse than it was in Louisiana. I hope the ones that got laid off well find work soon.
I'm pretty sure I saw Chelby on WSYX a few weeks ago, reporting on the casino in Columbus.
is this blog dead?????
yes, Jim, its dead.
Great site, this information really helped me , I really appreciate it.Thanks a lot for a bunch of good tips. I look forward to reading more on the topic in the future. Keep up the good work! This blog is going to be great resource. Love reading it.
nice tip
RIP blog.
This blog hasn't been updated since Jan 11, 2010!
Ex 22/45 Asa George has found a new job in her hometown (I believe).

Ex 22/45 Asa George has found a new job in her hometown (I believe).
too bad about this blog no longer updating, i had enjoyed it. a similar one is Tri-State Media Watch at http://ohkyintristatemedia.blogspot.com/ which is also currently updating sporadically, but 2 blogs on the same subject was not too many.
Candice Hunter has been canned.
What happened to Candace?
Head's up! As of June 2010, a new weekend meteorologist will be joining WHIO's Storm Center 7 team by the end of 2010 (courtesy of http://www.whiotv.com/jobs/1908480/detail.html). Apparently, one of WHIO's meteorologists could be leaving soon. Could it be chief meteorologist Jamie Simpson? Could it be Rich Wirdzek? ...Or could it be Kimberly Thomson? We'll have to find out later this year.
It's Kimberly Thomson, WHIO is not renewing her contract. She does not fill the position in the manner that they require. She has been warned about her performance, primarily her refusal to work the entire weekend shift.
Why doesn't someone get this blog going again???
What happened to Erin Meyer on Fox45?
Erin was a free-lancer and was never a contracted reporter. She had her resume posted online a while back, hopefully she found work.
Jamie Simpson has a long-term contract with WHIO and he will not be going anywhere for quite a while. Same goes for James Brown and Cheryl McHenry. Both have signed long term extensions to their contracts...
Erin became a producer for a station in Chicago. Also, Erin wasn't actually a freelancer, she was hired as a producer, but slowly moved over to reporting.
WHIO reporter Danielle Elias announced during a live field report that today (June 18, 2010) is her last day on 7. She is moving to the Columbus area.
Was there anything to Candace Hunter leaving?
Not that has been published. She told the Dayton Daily News that they simply had a parting of ways. Truth be told, she is too good for that dump called WKEF. I have been told that she is going to WCPO in Cincy, but that has not been confirmed and you know how people spread stuff and jump to conclusions....
She is definitely NOT going to WCPO-TV. They have no interest in her.
If anywhere, she may be going to WXIX (Fox). That would be more in her league.
As of today (7/15/2010), Danielle Elias's replacement on 7 must be Kate Bartley. Is there any word on when Storm Center 7 meteorologist Kimberly Thomson's contract is up?
Kimberly Thomson announced Saturday morning that her last day with WHIO will be on Wednesday, August 4th. After that, she moves to Columbus to be a new Public Relations Manager for AAA Auto.
Does anyone know what happened to Libby Kirsch?
Libby Kirsch's husband got a new job in Michigan back at the first of the year and she moved with him.
No loss where Kimberly Thomson is concerned ... far too nasally to be enjoyable to watch. WBNS is in need of a weekend meteorologist though
Starting Monday, August 30th, WHIO's new meteorologist is Erica Collura.
Weekends on WDTN are going to be changing. Meteorologist Erik Zarnitz is leaving to go to WLWT in Cincinnati and anhor/reporter Kennan Oliphant is off to a management gig in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Hello .. firstly I would like to send greetings to all readers. After this, I recognize the content so interesting about this article. For me personally I liked all the information. I would like to know of cases like this more often. In my personal experience I might mention a book called Firesales Costa Rica in this book that I mentioned have very interesting topics, and also you have much to do with the main theme of this article.
What happened to Meghan Mongillo? Is she anchoring any more? She was the only good part about getting up at 4:30am.
What is going on at NewsCenter 7? the sports in the newsroom, no shots of the storm center desk anymore and the anchors sit real close and the background is real dark looking.....
Starting this weekend (October 23, 2010), WDTN's new weekend meteorologist is Tara Hastings.
NewsCenter 7 is getting ready to launch from their New studios at the Cox Publishing Center in Downtown Dayton by UD, the official date of the first newscast from the new studios is December 13th, 2010
Are they (NC7) going to use the same old set at the new location or are they getting a new eye popping WOW HD set
On November 17, 2010, former WDTN anchor Carl Day is dead. R.I.P. Carl.
http://www.wdtn.com/dpp/news/local/carl-day-dead-at-72
WXIX's Meghan Mongillo is now a morning anchor for WRGT/WKEF starting December 6, 2010.
At least Meghan will be familiar with a losing newscast.
News should not be in HD.... has anyone see all the wrinkles by the talent at WHIO.... Jim Baldridge knew when to bow out.... others should follow
WHIO...We're Here In Old-age
Who gives a fuck about wrinkles. You see people with wrinkles everyday of your life. Watch the fucking news and shut the fuck up.
There is a new voice on WHIO AM 1290 news, some traffic, too - John Bedell. Nice voice.
Whats goin on with Live Doppler 7?
ever since the move I have noticed when they use "Live Doppler 7" they are using scans from the radar network including Wilmington,Ohio but no scan from LD7 in dayton
Does anyone know why channel 7 is not truly using live doppler 7. Lately i have noticed that they are using the nws radar in wilmington. Just watch the sweep and the ground clutter and you can see the difference
Dayton is so sad. Why is that bag of sticks Pam Eliot on in the morning while Megan O'Rourke is standing outside in the rain holding a microphone? And Mike Campbell with his breathing problems and his ear muffs and Jordan Burgess looking like Charlie Brown in his little hat and scarf. And Jill DelGreco looks like a homeless bag lady.
Just let Jamie Jarosik and Megan sit in front of the camera and talk to us and to each other. We'll all sit still for that.
Where is Cara Zinski? A local girl, she seemed cranky towards the end. She just missed getting a ride on the cute train...
And what about the other woman that used to be on 22/45 only on Sunday nights? I forget her name--shortish hair, big chest.
After nearly a year for WHIO's news reporter position to be up on their job openings page, Newsblues says it will be filled by former WAKA-TV anchor Jenna Deery. She'll be starting at WHIO by the end of this January.
On a side note, WKRC's anchor Dave Burchell has been canned recently after 20 years on their airwaves.
is Jenna Deery going to be an addition or is she replacing someone
The happiest new year to you and your readers!
Where have you gone, Sonu Wasu? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you. vin-da-loo.
WRGT/WKEF anchor Kylie Conway leaves Wednesday March 2, 2011 to pursue continuing her career at KTVX ABC4 in Salt Lake City where she will begin there on the 14th of that month.
Brittny McGraw is leaving WHIO to join sister Cox station WPXI in Pittsburgh as weekend morning anchor...
Laetitia Perry has a magnificent bosom. There, I said it.
Where has WDTN anchor Michelle Kingsfeild been lately?
Around the same time Brittny McGraw leaves WHIO-TV for WPXI-TV, reporter Kathryn Burcham is also leaving from WHIO-TV for WSOC-TV in Charleston, SC by the end of May 2011.
Why do they keep the woman who speaks ebonics on WHIO 7 every morning? Natasha something? I laugh every morning when she says "We go live to Mike Campboo, who's 'porting live from..."
It turns me on when WHIO 7's Natasha speaks ebonics every morning--- "We go live to Mike Campboo who's 'porting live from..."
You post the way Natasha speaks.
Shannon Sims, a reporter and weekend news anchor at Belo's WVEC-13-ABC in Norfolk (Market #43), is out the door after 4½ years. She's moving to an anchor job at an unspecified station in Dayton (Market #62).
http://www.wvec.com/on-tv/bios/69364637.html
The station that Shannon Sims is joining will be ABC 22/Fox 45 Dayton's News Source on June 6, 2011 where she will be the official replacement for Don Hammond's coanchor Kylie Conway, who left the station back in March of this year.
So what ever happened to this blog? Has anyone ever thought about starting a new one and used anonymous tips from emails for posts?
Malcolm Maddox of ABC 22/Fox 45 is leaving at the end of July to take a job in Detroit, Michigan.
Beginning Monday August 15, 2011, WHIO is expanding their morning news coverage another half hour to 4:30am. The 4:30am-5:00am edition will be covered by Saturday morning anchor by Gabrielle Enright.
WKEF/WRGT's morning anchor Pete Scalia is leaving for the sister stations WSYX & WTTE in Columbus where he'll start on September 6, 2011.
Does anyone know what the real reason is behind Gabrielle Enright getting the overnight shift? It just seems really odd that she goes from Saturday mornings and weekday reporting to an overnight shift and a 30-minute newscast.
Now I hear Don is leaving Fox 45...did he get another job, are they just cleaning house or did he not get along with rising star Shannon? I really like Don..he will be missed!
That's not all. After a recent meterologist weekend/weekday mornings shift swap with Andrew Michael on Dayton's News Source, veteran meteorologist Mike Terwilleger is leaving soon. First Pete Scalia, then Don Hammond, and now Mike Terwilleger?!
Gabriel got the shaft, not the shift. And Jamie jarosik looked better when she had a little of the baby weight still on her. Too skinny.
Christopher Heath Leaving San Antonio for Main Anchor Job in Dayton
By Andrew Gauthier on December 6, 2011 4:39 PM
Texas native Christopher Heath has left San Antonio’s KENS to become a main anchor at WKEF in Dayton, OH.
“It has been my distinct honor and privilege to be a part of this newsroom and moreover this city,” Heath wrote on Facebook, announcing his move to Dayton. “San Antonio doesn’t just feel like home, it is home. This is the city where my wife and I celebrated our first anniversary, bought our first home and welcomed our son into this world. Thank you San Antonio for everything!”
Heath joined KENS in 2008 as an anchor-reporter and his last day with the station was Sunday. No word yet on when he’ll make his on-air debut with WKEF.
KENS news director Kurt Davis told the San Antonio Express-News that the station is now conducting a nationwide search for Heath’s replacement on the weekend anchor desk alongside Karen Grace. In the meantime, Grace will solo anchor KENS’s weekend evening newscasts.

Leaving San Antonio and his home state of TX to go to that dump in Dayton? Something doesn't sound quite right. Did he do any research on Sinclair at all?
Does he know that he will soon be centrally located between the waste water treatment plant, the prison and the trash dump?
We need some life pumped into this blog. It's very informative!
Where is Mr. Terwilleger? He was the last great voice for 22/45! There's some little kid playing "weatherman" and he's amateurish as can be. And the evening anchors are just pathetic. Shannon Sims can't even pronounce half her words and sounds highly uneducated. Just listen to her! Chris Heath tries to sound funny, but is not. Jeff Booth is just as bad. It used to be a decent newscast, but now it's sad. It's more self-advertising than news.
Why, WKEF?!?!
